Gosh… that look on the musicians’ faces!!!
I asked my grandmother that I want something red with something ‘sparkly’ on it. Voilà! The audience went crazy but I knew that I am pushing my critics’ and, even, other performers’ tolerance level to the edge. That shirt was talk of the town. Some people were kind enough to tell me that I should pursue this showmanship business. Some of them even thought that I might get rich with this new-found strategy. However, some of them weren’t so kind…
My professors, who are my constructive critics, are always adamant about serving the music, not the other way around. I felt their disapproval. But, it was a deliberate attempt to experiment on what works or not. I do know that I expose myself to criticisms this way but I thought at that time that this is my way of embracing contemporary life.
The photo above was my performance taken years ago. I may have already changed my ways. When I was a bit younger, I always questioned conventional wisdom and has expressed loudly my opinion. 🙂 I guess, I am still on a journey to understand the successes required for a successful musicians.
